The Smithsonian Uses SunPower

Washington DC - April 12, 2015: The Smithsonian Institution Building in the spring season.

Many very intelligent people work for the Smithsonian Institution. And when they decided to install photovoltaic panels on the roof of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), they chose SunPower for generating solar energy. Homeowners and businesses in Sacramento follow their lead by using Solaron to design and install their system for producing solar electricity.

Why They Chose SunPower

The Smithsonian decided early in the planning process that their newest museum would be a green building, producing a large part of its own electricity. With SunPower, they were able to maximize their production, since SunPower manufactures the industry-leading photovoltaic panels in terms of efficiency and durability. As a result, the Smithsonian photovoltaic system annually provides over 136,000 kilowatt-hours of energy.

Used by the DOE

The Smithsonian is not the only federal building with SunPower solar panels. Just across the street from the NMAAHC is the Forrestal Building, home of the Department of Energy. The bureau that leads the entire nation in energy development installed a system that develops even more electricity than the Smithsonian units — over 220,000 kilowatt-hours per year. Obviously, the leaders of this federal agency are satisfied with their investment, as now their newest neighbor on the Mall uses the same SunPower technology.
