Your Rights as a Solar Power Customer

Part 3 in our series on the California Solar Consumer Protection Guide

California law provides customers of solar power providers with certain rights. Some of these rights are common to buyers of all major household renovations, but others are specific to the solar industry. As an identified dealer for SunPower solar panels, Solaron of Sacramento follows all of the expectations of the California Public Utilities Commission, including those that relate to respecting consumer rights when buying a photovoltaic installation.

You Have the Right to a Copy of the Contract in Your Language

If a sales representative from a solar installation company speaks to you in a language other than English, they need to provide you with a copy of any contract you are expected to sign in the language that they used to speak with you. They must also provide you with a copy of the consumer protection guide for solar in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese or Tagalog, whichever you prefer.

You May Read the Solar Consumer Protection Guide First

The consumer protection guide is 23 pages long. Although that seems like a lot, there are illustrations and the text is large. It really does not require much time to finish reading. You have the right to read the guide before you decide to sign any contract. This gives you the opportunity to verify that your salesperson and installer are following all of the expectations of the guide.

You Must Receive a Cost Disclosure

A solar installer must provide you with a complete Solar Energy System Disclosure Document. This gives you the actual cost of installing your photovoltaic array, so you know exactly how much money you must pay or finance to provide your property with solar power.

You Have Three Days to Cancel the Contract

A buyer has three business days to cancel any solar energy contract. The three days start after you receive a signed and dated copy of the contract. This gives you time to peruse the contract completely. You may cancel for any reason by e-mailing, mailing, faxing, or delivering notice to the solar power provider by midnight of the third business day.

Solaron wants to make certain that you are aware of your guaranteed rights as a solar power customer. For more information about these rights, contact Solaron online or by telephone at 916-631-9293.
