California Continues PV Lead

California Leads PV

2018 Shows State is #1 in Solar Power

Last year we reported on California’s status as number one in the nation for solar electricity generation, including residential, commercial and utility company installations. That championship status continues into 2018, as reported by the Solar Energy Industries Association. Out of the 58 gigawatts of solar electricity produced by the United States, California photovoltaic (PV) panels account for over 22 gigawatts of the total and approximately one-quarter of the jobs in the solar industry.

Although Nevada and Arizona both have fairly large solar installation totals, (over 2 and 3 gigawatts, respectively), the surprising runner-up to California is North Carolina, with over 4 gigawatts of solar power. Still, it seems unlikely that any state will catch up to California’s PV dominance. This is in line with California’s goal to provide 50% of its electricity needs from renewable energy by 2030. At this moment, solar energy accounts for nearly 17% of California’s total power generation.

SunPower supplies a generous part of the many solar panels and more than 86,000 jobs created by the solar industry in California. Headquartered in the Silicon Valley, when you install SunPower you can have confidence that your purchase helps fellow California citizens to enjoy the benefits of our state. SunPower is also the sole PV manufacturer used by Solaron of Sacramento.
